The Changing Seasons

The Netherlands Chamber Orchestra commissioned violinist Tim Kliphuis, internationally known for his genre-crossing approach to music, to write a new version of Antonio Vivaldi's 'Four Seasons'. Kliphuis chose to take improvisation as his starting point. At the same time, he intended to leave the best-known Vivaldi themes and chords in as they give the piece its wonderful energy. The result is a fresh and exciting interpretation that never loses sight of the original.

Trio Chemirani: Dawâr

The veritable tombak virtuosos of Trio Chemirani, consisting of Chemirani Senior and Juniors, enrapture the Festival de Saintes. The tombak is a Persian percussion instrument, but its rhythms are universal.

Five promising musicians get together in Rotterdam jazz club BIRD's artists-in-residence project, The Nest. BIRD and North Sea Jazz Festival's fringe festival DownTown organise a tryout performance with a unique collaboration of upcoming musicians.

Klezmer to Piazzolla This episode is all about the Astor Klezmer Trio, which sprung from a meeting of minds between violin player and singer Joëlle Strauss, flutist Marc Grauwels, accordion player Christophe Delporte, around their shared passion for the Argentine tango and the music of Astor Piazzolla. After hearing how well their instruments blended, these three musicians founded the Astor Klezmer Trio. The trio offers the audience an eclectic repertoire that is simultaneously refined and audacious.

American guitarist Al Di Meola was one of the artists appearing at 'Münchner Klaviersommer', an annual concert series that took place from 1981 to 1998 in Munich, Germany. The concerts were usually held in July at the Gasteig, home of the Munich Philharmonic.

The Maynard Ferguson Big Band

The Maynard Ferguson Big Band's Winter Tour of 1980 included a stop at the Brussels Jazz Club. Ferguson and his band turn in a performance that includes some hits of the day, including Weather Report's Birdland and Rocky's theme, Gonna Fly Now.

Münchner Klaviersommer: Bobby McFerrin

'Münchner Klaviersommer' was an annual concert series that took place from 1981 to 1998 in Munich, Germany. Although the festival's name suggests a strong focus on piano music, it featured countless famous musicians from jazz and classical music - not just pianists. The concerts were usually held in July at the Gasteig, home of the Munich Philharmonic. In 1988, vocalist Bobby McFerrin appeared at the festival.
